Manual shipping means: see order, open courier site, type address, compare price, book, paste AWB back. Automated shipping means the same pipeline runs without you. Here's what the automation actually does between order and AWB.

The pipeline in five steps

1) Order arrives — webhook from your store or a push from your system. 2) Normalised — the Shopify order and the WooCommerce order become the same shape internally: address, weight, dims, COD flag, value. 3) Quoted — every enabled carrier returns rate+ETA. 4) Booked — rules or human pick one; the booking creates the AWB. 5) Label generated — the 4×6 PDF ready for print.

Idempotency is the feature

The same order submitted twice must produce one shipment — the idempotency key on the external order ID is what makes automation safe. A duplicate push returns the existing AWB instead of a second parcel.

The failure queue

Automation handles the clean 95%: valid address, serviceable pincode, wallet funded. The rest route to a human queue — unserviceable pincode, missing weight, ambiguous address. The system works because the edge cases surface instead of silently failing.

What it removes

The daily copy-paste between store and courier dashboard, the fat-fingered address entry, the 'forgot to book' order. The human job becomes managing the queue, not processing the pipeline.

Pakka Parcel automates exactly this — the pipeline from order to AWB without the manual steps.

The playbook

1

Push orders automatically

Store webhook or API push — orders flow, not copy-paste.

2

Quote before booking

The cheapest option needs the comparison first.

3

Book with idempotency

Same order ID = same shipment, always.

4

Handle the exception queue

Automation for the clean, humans for the edge.
