Volumetric Weight — A pricing formula that charges for the space a parcel occupies, not its scale weight: L×W×H ÷ divisor (typically 5000 for cm, giving kg). Couriers bill the higher of actual and volumetric.

Why it matters to your store

It's how a 300 g cushion ships at a 4 kg price. Bulky low-density goods — pillows, lamps, toys, packaging with air — get volumetriced. Right-sizing boxes is free money.

This is the vocabulary every courier invoice, NDR report and rate card is written in — learn it once, save money forever.

Worked example

A 40×30×30 cm box: 36000÷5000 = 7.2 kg volumetric. If the contents weigh 900 g, you still pay for 7.2 kg.

The bottom line

Shipping jargon is really just the billing manual in disguise — every term on this list maps to a line on an invoice or a lever on your margins. Pakka Parcel is built so you rarely have to think about it: statuses normalise, bills reconcile, and quotes already include the surcharges.
